MRI of the Thoracic Spine

MRI of the thoracic spine is a safe, non-invasive, highly informative diagnostic method that allows detailed visualization of vertebrae, intervertebral discs, spinal cord, nerve roots and surrounding soft tissues. It is used for accurate detection of degenerative diseases, trauma, inflammation, tumors and other abnormalities.

Indications

  • chest pain or pain between the shoulder blades;
  • suspected osteochondrosis, herniated discs, protrusions;
  • postural deformities, scoliosis, asymmetry of shoulders;
  • numbness of hands or fingers, sensitivity disorders;
  • suspected impaired spinal cord blood supply;
  • muscle spasms in the thoracic region;
  • restricted mobility of the thoracic spine;
  • sharp pain when inhaling;
  • pre- and postoperative evaluation.

What Does MRI Show?

  • position of vertebrae and discs, displacement;
  • osteochondrosis, protrusions, hernias;
  • facet joints and soft tissues;
  • inflammation or compression of spinal nerve roots;
  • spinal cord abnormalities;
  • cysts, tumors, inflammation.

How Is the Procedure Performed?

No preparation is required. The patient removes metal objects and lies on the MRI table. Remaining still is essential to obtain high-quality images. Average duration: 20–40 minutes. Communication with the technician is maintained throughout the examination.
