MRI of the Shoulder Joint

MRI of the shoulder joint is a modern and highly accurate diagnostic method that provides three-dimensional visualization of bones, cartilage, tendons, ligaments, joint capsule, blood vessels and nerves. Our clinic uses an advanced MRI scanner that delivers exceptional image quality without ionizing radiation.

Why MRI of the Shoulder Is Performed

The study allows the doctor to assess the condition of all structures of the joint and detect abnormalities even at early stages. MRI is used for:

  • confirming or clarifying a previously established diagnosis;
  • primary evaluation when other methods are inconclusive;
  • monitoring disease progression;
  • preoperative planning;
  • assessing the effectiveness of treatment.

Indications

  • chronic shoulder pain radiating to the arm or back;
  • sharp or shooting pain during movement;
  • restricted range of motion;
  • swelling, redness and other signs of inflammation;
  • clicking or crunching during movements;
  • suspected tumors or metastases;
  • recent or past shoulder trauma.

How the Procedure Is Performed

The patient lies still inside the MRI scanner for 15–20 minutes. No preparation is required, except removing metal objects. The procedure is painless, and continuous two-way communication with the technician is maintained throughout the scan.
