Breast MRI: Early Detection of Breast Cancer
Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers among women. Early diagnosis significantly increases survival rates and treatment success. Breast MRI detects even the smallest changes in tissue, often invisible on ultrasound or mammography.
Why Breast MRI Is Effective
- Detection of tumors from 3–5 mm;
- Excellent tissue contrast and high detail (up to 800 layered images);
- Use of contrast enhancement to differentiate between benign and malignant lesions;
- No radiation exposure — safe for repeated use.
Indications for the Exam
- Early detection in high-risk patients (BRCA1/BRCA2 risk);
- Evaluation of dense breast tissue where mammography is less effective;
- Monitoring treatment progress and post-surgical scars;
- Screening for patients with breast implants.
How to Prepare
- Best performed on days 10–16 of the menstrual cycle;
- Avoid clothing with metal parts or accessories;
- Fast for 4–5 hours if contrast is required;
- Bring any previous imaging results (mammography or ultrasound).
Contraindications
- First trimester of pregnancy;
- Cardiac pacemakers and non-MRI-compatible metal implants;
- Severe renal or hepatic failure (for contrast-enhanced studies).
