Endoscopic Diagnostics at MC Brigid under the Medical Guarantee Program

Endoscopic Diagnostics at MC Brigid under the Medical Guarantee Program

At Brigid Medical Center in Kharkiv, patients can receive gastroscopy and colonoscopy free of charge under the NHSU Medical Guarantees Program. An electronic referral and compliance with the eligibility criteria of the relevant service package are required.

Important: the covered service includes more than the diagnostic procedure itself. When medically indicated, it may also include physician consultations, anesthesia support, biopsy, selected endoscopic interventions, preparation of the procedure report, and referral of tissue samples for histopathological examination.

Who is eligible for free examination?

Esophagogastroduodenoscopy — EGD (gastroscopy)

The service may be provided free of charge on the basis of:

  • an electronic referral from the patient’s declared primary care physician; or
  • an electronic referral from a treating specialist for patients aged 50 years or older.

Colonoscopy

The service may be provided free of charge on the basis of:

  • an electronic referral from the patient’s declared primary care physician; or
  • an electronic referral from a treating specialist for patients aged 45 years or older;

Frequency of diagnostic colonoscopy: once every two years, or annually for patients in a risk group, unless other medical indications require more frequent examination.

What is included in the covered service?

  • physician consultation before the procedure and assessment of possible contraindications;
  • anesthesiologist consultation before sedation or anesthesia;
  • diagnostic gastroscopy or colonoscopy;
  • local or general anesthesia when medically indicated;
  • photo and/or video documentation of the examination;
  • chromoendoscopy or virtual chromoendoscopy when indicated;
  • biopsy and collection of other biological samples when indicated;
  • endoscopic interventions or procedures, including polyp removal, when medically indicated and safe to perform during the examination;
  • preparation of the medical conclusion and procedure report immediately after the examination;
  • referral and organization of sample transportation to a pathology laboratory;
  • recording of results on the patient’s digital storage device upon request;
  • emergency medical care if required.
Please note: the physician determines the exact scope of interventions based on medical indications, the patient’s condition, examination findings, and procedural safety. A referral does not automatically mean that biopsy, anesthesia, or polyp removal is required.
