MRI of the Prostate
MRI of the prostate is a highly accurate, non-invasive diagnostic method used to detect prostate cancer, assess tumor stage and evaluate other diseases of the prostate gland. Thanks to a high-resolution MRI scanner, our clinic obtains detailed layered images that allow early detection of abnormalities, inflammation, tumors and functional disorders.
Why MRI of the Prostate Is Performed
MRI provides a detailed view of the internal prostate structure, helping to identify even minimal pathological changes. It is most often used for:
- diagnosis and staging of prostate cancer;
- guidance for targeted biopsy;
- detection of inflammation, abscesses, hematomas;
- assessment of congenital anomalies;
- evaluation after surgery and monitoring therapy effectiveness.
Indications for MRI
- persistent pelvic or groin pain;
- blood or pus in urine or semen;
- painful ejaculation;
- erectile dysfunction;
- pain or burning during urination;
- difficulty urinating or weak urine stream;
- elevated PSA level;
- suspected cancer or metastases.
How the Procedure Is Performed
MRI is painless and lasts 20–50 minutes. The patient lies still on the scanner table while continuous communication with the technician is maintained. There is no ionizing radiation, and contraindications are discussed beforehand.
