MRI of Pelvic Organs
MRI of the pelvic organs is a high-precision and non-invasive diagnostic method that allows detailed visualization of reproductive organs, urinary system structures, blood vessels, lymph nodes and surrounding soft tissues. The study is completely safe because MRI uses no ionizing radiation.
Why MRI of the Pelvis Is Performed
Layer-by-layer scanning helps detect inflammatory processes, tumors, congenital anomalies, adhesions, vascular disorders and other structural changes. MRI is especially valuable when ultrasound or CT do not provide sufficient diagnostic information.
Indications
For women:
- endometriosis;
- pelvic pain of unknown origin;
- vaginal bleeding or cycle irregularities;
- infertility;
- lesions of the rectum or uterus;
- suspected tumor growth.
For men:
- pelvic pain or discomfort;
- swelling of the scrotum;
- urinary retention or painful urination;
- diagnostic evaluation of prostate or bladder disorders.
General indications:
- trauma of pelvic organs;
- suspected malignant tumor or metastases;
- monitoring treatment effectiveness;
- preoperative evaluation.
Preparation for MRI
- Follow a low-gas diet 2–3 days before the scan.
- Use a laxative or cleansing enema the day before.
- Avoid eating for 3 hours before the procedure.
- Take an antispasmodic 30 minutes before scanning.
How the Procedure Is Performed
The patient lies on the MRI table and remains still during scanning. The procedure lasts up to 40 minutes and is fully painless. Two-way communication with the technician is maintained throughout the study.
