MRI of the Knee Joint

MRI of the knee joint is a safe, painless and highly informative diagnostic method. It allows detailed assessment of bones, cartilage, ligaments, tendons, menisci, synovial structures and surrounding soft tissues. Using modern high-resolution equipment, MRI helps detect even minimal pathological changes at the earliest stages.

What Is MRI of the Knee Used For?

Knee MRI allows the physician to evaluate internal joint structures in detail and diagnose:

  • inflammatory and degenerative processes;
  • meniscus tears and ligament injuries;
  • cartilage degeneration and chondromalacia;
  • patellar damage and instability;
  • joint effusion (fluid accumulation);
  • bone edema, fractures, microfractures;
  • benign and malignant tumors;
  • infectious processes and soft tissue inflammation.

Indications

  • persistent knee pain;
  • swelling, redness, stiffness;
  • limited flexion or extension;
  • suspected ligament tears or meniscus damage;
  • joint instability;
  • post-traumatic conditions;
  • suspected tumors or metastases;
  • pre-surgical evaluation.

How Is the Procedure Performed?

MRI requires no special preparation. The patient lies on the scanner table, the knee is gently fixed to prevent movement, and scanning takes 20–30 minutes. Two-way communication with the technician is available throughout the exam.
