MRI of the Hand

MRI of the hand is a modern and highly informative diagnostic technique that provides detailed visualization of bones, joints, tendons, ligaments, muscles, nerves and blood vessels. Layer-by-layer scanning allows physicians to detect even the smallest pathological changes, including inflammation, traumatic injuries and tumors.

Indications

  • chronic pain in the wrist or hand;
  • restricted mobility of the wrist;
  • tendon contractures;
  • swelling, redness or unexplained discomfort;
  • suspected benign or malignant tumors;
  • aseptic necrosis;
  • vascular and nerve compression syndromes;
  • preoperative evaluation;
  • low informativeness of X-ray or ultrasound.

What Can MRI Detect?

  • arthritis, arthrosis, inflammatory changes;
  • ligament tears, tendon injuries;
  • bone fractures (including hairline fractures);
  • ganglion cysts, lipomas, hygromas;
  • tumors and metastases;
  • vascular abnormalities and nerve entrapment;
  • degenerative and dystrophic changes.

How Is the Procedure Performed?

MRI is painless and does not require preparation. The patient lies down, the hand is positioned and may be gently fixed to prevent movement. The scan takes 15–20 minutes. Communication with the technician is available throughout the procedure.
