MRI of the Brain and Cervical Spine

MRI of the brain and cervical spine is a comprehensive, non-invasive and highly accurate diagnostic method used to evaluate neurological structures, blood vessels and the cervical segment of the spine. It helps detect traumatic, degenerative, vascular and tumor-related conditions at early stages.

Indications

  • suspected stroke or post-stroke changes;
  • persistent headaches or dizziness;
  • neurological symptoms, weakness in arms;
  • seizures, epilepsy;
  • memory or concentration impairment;
  • suspected tumors in the head or cervical region;
  • pituitary dysfunction;
  • neck pain of unknown origin;
  • trauma to the head, neck or upper spine;
  • pre-surgical evaluation.

What Does MRI Show?

  • brain structures and cerebellum;
  • white matter and vascular network;
  • sinuses and venous system;
  • intervertebral discs and spinal joints;
  • cervical spinal cord;
  • soft tissues and ligaments of the neck;
  • nerve root compression;
  • disc herniation, protrusions and osteochondrosis;
  • tumors, cysts and inflammation.

How Is the Procedure Performed?

No preparation is required. The patient removes all metal items, lies on the MRI table and remains still. The head and neck may be fixed. Duration: 20–30 minutes, or up to 60 minutes with contrast.
