MSCT of the Neck
MSCT of the neck is a highly informative radiological method used to visualize soft tissues, muscles, vessels, the larynx, pharynx, salivary glands, thyroid gland and cervical spine. It provides significantly more detailed information compared to standard X-ray imaging and allows detection of pathologies at early stages. The procedure is safe, fast and painless.
When the Examination Is Recommended
- suspected tumors or metastases in the neck;
- neck injuries;
- congenital abnormalities;
- cysts;
- foreign body detection and localization;
- cervical spine disorders, osteochondrosis, stenosis;
- enlarged lymph nodes;
- diverticula of the esophagus or pharynx;
- hoarseness or changes in voice;
- atherosclerosis and other vascular disorders;
- abscesses, phlegmon and inflammatory processes.
What MSCT Shows
The scan provides detailed visualization of:
- soft tissues of the neck;
- larynx and pharynx;
- trachea;
- salivary glands;
- thyroid gland;
- blood vessels and lymph nodes;
- cervical spine and bone structures.
MSCT helps diagnose inflammatory diseases, tumors, metastases, trauma consequences and vascular pathology, as well as evaluate treatment effectiveness and prepare for surgery.
How the Procedure Is Performed
Before the scan, the patient removes metal objects. The head and neck are positioned on a special cushion to ensure immobility. The table moves inside the rotating CT ring, which scans the target area.
The procedure takes 10–20 minutes without contrast and up to 30 minutes if contrast enhancement is needed. Communication with the medical team is maintained via intercom.
