MSCT of the Lower Leg
Multislice Computed Tomography (MSCT) of the lower leg is a highly accurate, non-invasive diagnostic method based on multi-layer X-ray scanning. Unlike a standard CT scan, MSCT acquires numerous slices with a thickness of only 0.5 mm, resulting in exceptionally detailed images. This enables the radiologist to detect even minor abnormalities and make a precise diagnosis. Our clinic uses advanced low-dose CT equipment that ensures clear visualization of bones, joints and soft tissues.
What MSCT of the Lower Leg Helps Diagnose
MSCT provides detailed visualization of the tibia, fibula, ankle joint and surrounding soft tissues. The method allows evaluation of inflammatory and degenerative changes, traumatic injury, tumors and postoperative conditions.
MSCT is highly effective for detecting malignant and benign tumors, including metastatic lesions. Early-stage neoplasms can be accurately visualized, with precise assessment of size, location and involvement of adjacent structures.
When MSCT Is Recommended
- degenerative and dystrophic diseases;
- fractures, dislocations and traumatic injuries;
- osteomyelitis;
- pain of unknown origin;
- congenital abnormalities;
- inflammatory processes;
- benign and malignant tumors;
- suspected metastases.
MSCT may be prescribed when other diagnostic methods fail to provide sufficient information. It is often used for preoperative planning, postoperative control, evaluation of treatment results and differential diagnosis of complex cases.
How the Procedure Is Performed
The patient removes all metal objects and lies on the CT table. The scanner performs layer-by-layer imaging while the table moves smoothly through the gantry. The entire procedure usually takes around 10 minutes.
If additional soft-tissue or vascular detail is required, contrast enhancement may be used. The procedure is painless and comfortable. Radiation exposure is minimal, but MSCT should be performed according to medical indications.
