MSCT Angiography

MSCT angiography is a high–precision diagnostic method designed to assess the condition of blood vessels and detect vascular pathologies. During the examination, an iodine-based contrast agent is administered, which allows the radiologist to visualize arteries and veins in great detail. The procedure is safe, fast, and highly informative, providing a complete three-dimensional picture of the vascular system.

When is MSCT Angiography Performed?

The examination is recommended for diagnosing the following conditions:

  • myocarditis, cardiomyopathies, pericarditis;
  • coronary vessel pathologies;
  • congenital anomalies of the heart and vascular system;
  • cardiac tumors;
  • diseases of vessels located in the chest cavity;
  • heart valve abnormalities;
  • diabetic foot syndrome;
  • trophic ulcers;
  • varicose veins.

MSCT angiography is also used before and after ablation procedures, valve prosthetics, and implantation of endoprostheses or vascular grafts.

What Does the Examination Show?

The scan allows detection of:

  • vascular thrombosis;
  • abnormal development of arteries and veins;
  • benign and malignant tumors compressing or invading vessels;
  • vasculitis;
  • atherosclerosis;
  • primary vascular tumors.

How MSCT Angiography Is Performed

No special preparation is required, but the patient must provide recent creatinine and urea blood test results. Before the scan, jewelry and all metal objects must be removed.

A catheter is inserted into a vein, and a contrast agent is administered using an automatic injector. As the contrast spreads through the bloodstream, the CT scanner acquires images in multiple projections. The patient lies still to ensure maximum image clarity.

The resulting 3D images allow the radiologist to accurately identify pathologies and establish a diagnosis.
